Here is a practical checklist for telling a genuinely Canadian skincare purchase from clever packaging.
1. Know what the label claims actually mean
In Canada, "Product of Canada" generally means nearly all of the production cost is Canadian, while "Made in Canada" means the product underwent its last substantial transformation here with a majority of costs incurred in Canada — usually with a qualifying statement like "with domestic and imported ingredients." Both are meaningful. A maple leaf on the logo alone, however, is just graphic design.
2. Ask where it was formulated — not just filled
Plenty of "Canadian" brands license a stock formula made overseas and pour it into a labelled bottle. A genuinely Canadian line can tell you who developed the formulas and where.
